How We Spent My 40th

I went back and forth on the appropriate way to celebrate the BIG FOUR ZERO. A repeat of my mega-bender 30th could be fun, but that was the best way for me to celebrate that time in my life. Things are different now, and so am I. So after a lot of pondering of the best way to blend past and present, we decided to have a family journey to a National Park along the Pacific Ocean. A familiar spot for me (going back to my Marin days with Dad and Jason), and a beautiful location to introduce Elsa to Bay Area living. Pt Reyes National Park can be hit or miss with the fog, wind and perpetual cold weather, but we lucked out and chose a great day. Here are pictures of Elsa's biggest adventure to date.

Mobilizing for the hike...

At the trailhead...

And we are off...

We made it to the beach...

Tom went for a swim...

And we celebrated at the Pine Cone Cafe in Pt Reyes Station!

New Moves for '08

With my quickly approaching 40th birthday (in 8 days), I have been assessing my general state of affairs. Other than Elsa/Catherine/Jack, one reoccuring thought in my head is racing bikes. For as much as I love it, I am not that great at it. I am a smooth rider, but that does not win you races. At least the short, fast ones. One thing I have in my favor is that your endurance supposedly goes up as you get older. If that is the case, maybe I should race longer events, right?

Thus, the new moves for '08 will be 8 hr races. Eight in '08. My first one is a solo effort on the single speed (Boggs III), followed by a 2 man team effort in May at Laguna Seca (24 hrs of Adrenalin). The trouble is, when am I going to find time to train for an 8 hr race??? Ideally I could build up for the Tahoe Sierra 100 in September, but that might be a tad ambitious. We shall have to see how the first two go.
